Bromley, 20th August 2025 – London Biggin Hill Airport is proud to announce a new two-year partnership with Bromley Rugby Football Club’s Girls’ Section, strengthening a shared commitment to driving equal opportunities for women and girls in Bromley.

The new multi-year partnership follows a transformative first year of collaboration in which Bromley Rugby Club has seen female participation grow by 60%. With support from London Biggin Hill, the club has been able to introduce several new initiatives, including an Under-9s Girls’ team – the only local club offering all-girls rugby at this age – and Level 2 England Rugby Coaching qualifications for three coaches.

Players also benefitted from external coaching sessions and specialist training from professional rugby players, helping to elevate both skill and confidence across all age groups, while the Girls’ Section has expanded its horizons, travelling to international tournaments in Belgium and taking more than 20 Under-12 girls on the club’s first ever dedicated girls’ tour.

The renewed partnership will contribute vital funding to support the growth of the Girls’ Section during the 2025-2026 season and beyond, including investment in new rugby equipment, a refreshed playing kit and additional training facilities at a local secondary school to accommodate increasing demand.

Matthew Amer, Head of Public Affairs & Community Engagement at London Biggin Hill Airport, said: “Our partnership with Bromley Rugby Club is rooted in shared values – both the club and the airport are passionate about creating inclusive environments where women and girls can thrive. Sport has the power to build confidence and unlock potential, and we’re proud to stand alongside Bromley RFC in championing that vision locally. It’s been inspiring to see so many girls embrace rugby this past year, and we’re excited to support Bromley RFC’s next chapter of growth.”

Ross Castell, Chair of Bromley RFC Girls Section, said: “Our relationship with London Biggin Hill Airport has always been about more than sponsorship; it’s about a shared vision to create opportunities for girls and women in spaces where they’ve historically been underrepresented. The last season has been ground-breaking for Bromley RFC, not just in growth and performance but in setting new standards for girls’ rugby development. We’re delighted to continue working with London Biggin Hill Airport as we build on this momentum in the upcoming season.”

With support from the partnership, Bromley RFC recently began working with the STAR Scheme (Sport, Training and Accessible Rugby), an initiative focused on removing barriers to participation. Through this collaboration, the Club is ensuring that girls of all backgrounds and abilities are welcomed into the game, with targeted support for those facing financial, physical or social challenges to accessing sport.

London Biggin Hill Airport is proud to support the Bromley community in a variety of ways, from partnerships with Bromley Football Club and Bromley Rugby Club to its Community Fund which provides grants for local charities and organisations, totalling more than £100,000 since 2015.

To celebrate the start of the Women’s Rugby World Cup, Bromley Rugby Club is hosting a watch party for the opening match, England vs USA, on 22nd August. The free-to-attend event will bring the local community together to mark the start of the global tournament and showcase the spirit of the women’s game.
