Meet Our Instructors

Andy

I have been in the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service as a Firefighter since 2018. During this time, I’ve gained a vast amount of experience in all our training course subjects. Since 2020, I have been the lead instructor for our Evacuation Chair training and delivered the course to various companies, both internally and externally.

I have also achieved my Level 3 qualification in Award in Education and Training (AET), and enjoy using my knowledge and expertise to teach people new skills.

Chloe

Aviation has always been a keen interest of mine, which is why I joined the Air Cadets in 2008 and worked my way through the ranks to my current role as Flight Sergeant.

In 2014, I started my aviation career as a Security Guard at London Biggin Hill Airport. During this time, I worked closely with the Rescue and Firefighting Service and built good relationships with everyone. This inspired me to apply and become a Firefighter – which I achieved in 2017.

In 2020, I became an Immediate Emergency Care Instructor, which gave me the opportunity to pass on my knowledge and skills to other people. For me, helping people is the most rewarding aspect of the job.

Chris

After 20 years in car sales, I decided to change career and, in 2019, became a Firefighter at London Biggin Hill Airport. Since then, I’ve taken every opportunity to enhance my skills and qualifications in numerous subjects, such as; Level 3 in the Servicing and Maintenance of Portable Fire Extinguishers, Working at Height / Ladder Safety and Inspection.

I’ve also completed my Train the Trainer, Face Fit Mask Testing, Road Traffic Collision Instructor and Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) qualifications. I enjoy using my experience and knowledge to help and train others, including fellow colleagues, our on-site companies and local organisations.

Matt

After looking for a career where I could make a difference, I joined the London Biggin Hill Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service in 2017. This has been a dream come true, as I enjoy all aspects of the role – especially the teaching and instructing.

I have been instructing our Staff Fire Training, Aircrew Training and Driver Training (on the airfield) for many years now and, in 2021, I became Level 3 qualified in the Servicing and Maintenance of Portable Fire Extinguishers, which helped broaden my knowledge and experience.

In 2023, I put myself forward to become AET trained (Level 3 in Award in Education and Training); this has given me the understanding of different learning styles that students may have and has helped me adapt my teaching techniques.

Matt

Prior to joining the airport, I was a first responder and life boat crew volunteer for 12 years, where I discovered my passion for helping people and teaching new skills.

In 2017, I joined London Biggin Hill Airport as a Firefighter and have since broadened my skillset by achieving my Level 3 in Award in Education and Training (AET) qualification.

Over the last 4 years, I’ve become an instructor in the Air Operators Certificate (AOC), Abrasive Wheels and Staff Fire Training. I have been teaching these subjects for over 4 years and love engaging with students theoretically and practically.

Tom

I started my career at London Biggin Hill Airport in 2021 as a Ground Operations Apprentice. The apprenticeship ran for 12 months and was split into two parts – one working with the Ramp Safety Team and the other working in the Rescue and Firefighting Service.

After completing the apprenticeship, I joined the Rescue and Firefighting Service in 2022. After a year in this role, I was offered the opportunity to broaden my skillset and become an Immediate Emergency Care Instructor. This is a subject I am incredibly passionate about as I find teaching others very rewarding.

Most recently, I’ve achieved my Level 3 in Award in Education and Training (AET), which has enabled me to adapt my teaching to suit different learning styles.
