London – 7 May 2026: London Biggin Hill Airport today announced a significant milestone in its environmental journey, having achieved Level 2 status within the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme. This accomplishment is an important step in the airport’s long-term commitment to responsible growth and its ambition to reach carbon neutrality by 2029.

Level 2 accreditation recognises airports that go beyond mapping their carbon footprint to demonstrate measurable market-based emissions reductions within their direct control. For London Biggin Hill Airport, this reflects sustained investment, continuous operational improvement, and a strong, organisation-wide commitment to sustainability.

The airport was supported in achieving this certification by Ricardo (member of WSP), a global leader in environmental, engineering and energy solutions with recognised expertise in airport sustainability and ACA programmes.

This milestone directly supports London Biggin Hill’s Sustainability Statement, which sets out a clear framework for reducing environmental impact and embedding sustainable practices across all airport operations. Level 2 status provides clear, external validation of London Biggin Hill’s progress against these objectives, demonstrating measurable emissions reductions within its direct control, while strengthening the foundation for further enhancement.

David Winstanley, Chief Executive Officer of London Biggin Hill Airport, said: “Being awarded Level 2 of Airport Carbon Accreditation is a fantastic achievement for the entire airport community. It demonstrates our strong commitment to responsible airport operations and our drive to lead in sustainable aviation. It is great to see that our long-term strategy is producing real and measurable results. Ricardo’s sustainable aviation specialists have been instrumental in supporting us to embed sustainability across the airport.”

The airport will keep building on this momentum by expanding its environmental management systems, speeding up carbon reduction initiatives, and collaborating with partners, resident companies, and the wider community to support shared sustainability goals.

London Biggin Hill Airport remains dedicated to achieving carbon neutrality by 2029, progressing within ACA Europe’s framework and its own strategic vision for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
