On Sunday 22 June, London Biggin Hill Airport hosted the return of its Sunrise Challenge to raise money for its three corporate charity partners: Aerobility, RAF Benevolent Fund and Scotty’s Little Soldiers. In a record year, the event saw over 400 runners take on a 5K run along the runway at 06:30.

It was a beautiful morning for the charity challenge, which brought together colleagues, local community members and supporters to raise £9,500, which will be divided between the charities.

The participant medals were handcrafted by The Biggin Hill Shed, a local community project where residents meet and interact, sharing skills gained during their working lives.

Matthew Amer, Head of Public Affairs and Community Engagement at London Biggin Hill Airport, said: “We are incredibly proud to host this special event in support of our three corporate charity partners – Aerobility, RAF Benevolent Fund and Scotty’s Little Soldiers. Each of these organisations carries out life-changing work, from empowering people with disabilities to fly, to supporting the RAF family, and standing by the children of our fallen service members. It’s an honour to come together as a community to raise vital funds and awareness for their invaluable causes.

We’re delighted to see the continued success of the Sunrise Challenge, with participation growing again this year. It was wonderful to be joined by representatives of the airport’s resident companies, running clubs, local community, our corporate charities, Bromley Rugby Club and Bromley Football Club, all eager to run the runway exceptionally early in the morning in a show of united charitable spirit.”

London Biggin Hill Airport hosts the Sunrise Challenge annually. Each year proceeds from the event are donated to the airport’s corporate charity partners. The airport also supports local community partners and awards one-off contributions from a Community Fund that has given more than £100,000 to good causes since 2015.
