We’re delighted to announce that the Sunrise Challenge is returning and will take place on Saturday 20th June 2026.

This fantastic event provides the unique opportunity to take on a 5K run on our runway while the sun rises, with all proceeds going to our three incredible corporate charity partners: Scotty’s Little Soldiers, RAF Benevolent Fund and Aerobility.

Tickets cost £20 per person (plus booking fee) and can be purchased via Citizen Ticket (linked below). The ticket cost includes your run and a medal. Please note: tickets must be booked in advance. Full details about the event will be emailed to participants.

On the day, please meet at our on-site training centre, The Hub – check-in opens at 5:30am, for a 6:30am race start. Due to limited parking on-site, we kindly ask participants to car share where possible. If you require a parking space, please book one of the car parking tickets too.

FAQs

What is the Sunrise Challenge?

Our Sunrise Challenge is a 5K charity run where participants run a unique route around the airport at sunrise. We host the event in support of our three corporate charity partners, with all proceeds split equally between the three charities: Aerobility, RAF Benevolent Fund & Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

What time should participants arrive?

Check-in opens at 5:30am, and participants should arrive no later than 6:15am. The run starts at 6:30am sharp.

Where is check-in located?

Check-in will take place at the designated event registration area – more details will be emailed to all participants nearer the event date.

Is parking available?

Yes, there will be free parking. However, please book a complimentary car parking ticket as parking is limited – we encourage participants to car share where possible too.

What should I wear?

We advise that participants wear comfortable athletic clothing, suitable running shoes / trainers, layers (mornings can be cold), waterproof clothing if rain is forecast.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Please bring your event registration confirmation (digital or printed) and any personal medication you may need.

Is the event suitable for beginners?

Yes. The Sunrise Challenge is designed to be accessible for a wide range of fitness levels, but participants should feel comfortable with running 5K.

Are there age restrictions?

The Sunrise Challenge is open to all. Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The event will take place in most weather conditions. In the case of severe weather or safety concerns, we may delay or modify the event – any modifications will be communicated to participants via email.

Are spectators allowed?

No, spectators are not permitted at the event. Access to the site is restricted to registered participants and authorised event staff only. This ensures the site can be safely cleared and returned to normal airport operations once the event finishes.

Are toilets and facilities available?

Yes, toilet facilities and refreshment areas will be available at the event site.

Will refreshments be provided?

Please bring your own water bottle. Water and treats will be available after the run too.

What about safety and medical support?

At London Biggin Hill Airport, safety is our top priority. Our Airport Rescue & Firefighting Service (RFFS) will be on-site throughout the event and on hand to respond if assistance is required. Participants will also receive a safety briefing before the challenge begins to ensure everyone understands the event procedures and designated areas.

Can I take photos or videos?

Participants are welcome to take photos and capture their Sunrise Challenge experience in the registration and warm-up areas before and after the run. However, we kindly ask that participants do not take photos or videos during the run. Please follow any instructions given by event staff or airport personnel regarding photography.
